Dave Cameron Hired as Binghamton Senators Head Coach

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Senators today announced that Ottawa Senators general manager John Muckler has appointed Dave Cameron as head coach of the Binghamton Senators.
Cameron, a native of Kinkora, Prince Edward Island, comes to Binghamton from the Toronto St. Michael's Majors of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He served as head coach and director of hockey operations for the Majors since August of 2000.
"We are excited to have Dave Cameron join the Senators organization as head coach in Binghamton and continue the success he had at St. Michaels in the Ontario Hockey League," said Muckler. "Dave is an excellent coach who has been successful at all levels and has NHL playing experience. We're confident he'll fit into our organization very well."
With a regular season record of 145 wins, 87 losses, 30 ties and 10 overtime losses with the Majors, Cameron set the modern franchise record for most career regular season victories by a head coach. The Majors have reached the OHL's Eastern Conference finals in each of Cameron's four seasons at the helm. The team was regular season Central Division champions in 2001-2002 and 2003-2004.
Part of Cameron's summer has been spent in the Czech Republic where he served as head coach of Canada's National Under-18 Team at the Junior World Cup. The Canadian team finished the tournament with a perfect 5-0-0 record as they captured the gold medal. He led the same team to a fourth place finish at the Junior World Cup in 2003.
Cameron is the second head coach in Binghamton Senators franchise history. Former head coach John Paddock was appointed to an assistant coach position with the Ottawa Senators in July.
As a player, Cameron participated in 168 NHL games recording 53 points (25 goals, 28 assists) during stints as a center with the Colorado Rockies and the New Jersey Devils. Cameron spent part of the 1984-85 season with the Maine Mariners of the American Hockey League where John Paddock was an assistant at the time.
Following the 1984-85 season, Cameron retired from playing and began his career as a coach. In 1987, Cameron embarked on an 8-year stint as head coach of the Summerside Western Capitals of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League.
Cameron holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Prince Edward Island as well as a master's of education from the University of New Brunswick.
