
Admirals sign defenseman

NORFOLK, VA â Today, the Norfolk Admirals announced that defenseman Joey Martin has agreed to a tryout with the club. He is expected to join the team for training camp this fall.
Martin, 23, stands at 6'03", 203 lbs. Selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the sixth round (193rd overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, he has played for the University of Minnesota for the past four years. In 64 career games with the Golden Gophers, the Buffalo, MN, native scored three goals and added 12 assists for 15 points while picking up 42 PIM.
"Joey Martin is a Blackhawks draft choice with size and presence, which could be very valuable on the Admirals' blueline," said Admirals' General Manager Al MacIsaac. "We expect him to come in and be a solid âstay-at-home' defenseman."
