San Antonio â The San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League today announced that the Florida Panthers have re-signed restricted free agent D Mike Van Ryn and signed unrestricted free agent D Jeff Paul.
Van Ryn, 24, was acquired from the St. Louis Blues on March 11, 2003, in exchange for RW Valeri Bure, before being assigned to San Antonio. Van Ryn notched three points (0-3-3) with 20 penalty minutes in 11 games with the Rampage. Originally drafted by the New Jersey Devils, in the first round (26th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, he has spent parts of the last three seasons with St. Louis, scoring 13 points (2-11-13) with 26 penalty minutes in 69 NHL games. The 6-foot-1, 202-pound native of London, Ontario, spent the bulk of last season with the Worcester IceCats (AHL), scoring 10 points (two goals, eight assists) with 16 penalty minutes in 33 games. Van Ryn won an NCAA Championship as a member of the Michigan Wolverines (CCHA) in 1998 and skated with Team Canada at the World Junior Championships in 1998 and 1999.
Paul, 25, played the majority of last season in Hershey, tallying five points (2-3-5) with 123 penalty minutes in 50 games. Paul, who was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks, in the second round (42nd overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, also skated in two scoreless games with the Colorado Avalanche last year. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound native of London, Ontario, started the 2002-03 season with Colorado and made his NHL debut Oct. 9 against the Dallas Stars. The five-year pro has also skated with the Norfolk Admirals (AHL), Cleveland Lumberjacks (IHL), Indianapolis Ice (IHL) and Portland Pirates (AHL).

The Rampage open the 2003-04 campaign in Utah on October 10, before returning home to face the Grizzlies in a rematch on October 11 at 7:00 p.m.
