Monarchs Sign Hayward And Hauser

MANCHESTER, NH – The Manchester Monarchs, the AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have signed forward Leon Hayward and goalie Adam Hauser to one-year AHL contracts, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today. Per club policy, terms of the agreements were not announced.

Hayward, 24, made his AHL debut this past season with the Monarchs recording three points (1-2=3) and 15 penalty minutes in seven games. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound native of Seattle, Washington also played in 67 games for the Richmond Renegades of the East Coast Hockey League recording 25 points (12-13=25) and 107 penalty minutes. Hayward made his pro debut with the Pensacola Ice Pilots (ECHL) in the spring of 2002 scoring one point and registering four penalty minutes in five regular season and three post-season games. He turned pro after a four-year collegiate career at Northeastern University (1998-02) that included 132 games, 30 points (15-15=30) and 72 penalty minutes.

Hauser, 23, made his AHL debut with the Providence Bruins this past season with his lone start taking place in Manchester against the Monarchs. The 6-foot-2, 194-pounder from Bovey, Minnesota finished with 33 saves as the Bruins and the Monarchs skated to a 3-3 tie at the Verizon Wireless Arena on April 5. Hauser's rookie season also included 34 appearances with the Jackson Bandits (ECHL) where he posted a 20-9-4 record, a 2.46 goals-against-average, a ..916 save-percentage and five shutouts. Before turning pro he enjoyed a record-setting four-year collegiate career at the University of Minnesota (1998-02), backstopping the Gophers to the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championship in April of 2002. In the championship game he made 42 saves, including five in overtime, as the Gophers edged the University of Maine 4-3. Hauser finished the 2001-02 season with a 23-6-4 record, a 2.40 goals-against-average, a .913 save percentage and one shutout. He remains Minnesota's all-time leader in games played (151), wins (83) and shutouts (8).

The Monarchs open their third AHL season at home against the Worcester IceCats on Friday, October 10 at 7:35 p.m. They will also host the Lowell Lock Monsters on Saturday, October 11 at 7:35 p.m. and the Portland Pirates on Wednesday, October 15 at 7:05 p.m. Currently, the only way to secure a seat for the 2003-04 Home Opener is to purchase a Monarchs full, half or ten-game season ticket package.
