Checkers & Knights Join Forces In Unique Business Initiative

(Charlotte, NC - Tuesday, August 19, 2003) The Charlotte Knights Baseball Club and the Charlotte Checkers Hockey Club announce today a unique, rare and strategic year-long, mini-plan season ticket plan combining both hockey and baseball tickets. The 50 ticket package will feature 25 tickets for the Charlotte Checkers upcoming 2003-04 season, and 25 tickets for the Charlotte Knights 2004 season. The combines ticket initiative is announced today by Checkers Owner / CEO Carl Scheer, and Knights Vice President & General Manager Bill Blackwell.

"This is one of the very few times in sports where two different professional teams have combined in a joint ticket effort like the one we're announcing today, commented Scheer. "This is a very creative package and a great opportunity for area businesses to support minor league! hockey and baseball. "I congratulate Bill Blackwell from the Knights for working with the Checkers on this exciting new concept."

Blackwell also shared his thoughts on the new partnership. "The Knights are very excited about this unique marketing opportunity with the Charlotte Checkers. "This partnership is very affordable for Charlotte businesses to support both organizations. "I admire the leadership of the Charlotte Checkers new ownership and look forward to working with them."

The cost of the Checkers / Knights 50 games, year-long season ticket is reasonably priced at $500.00. The majority of the games offered are also weekend dates, and the package also features the Checkers "Home Opener" and the Knights "Opening Day." Among the Checkers 25 games are 13 Saturdays. ten Fridays, and two Sundays. The Knights portion will feature eight Saturdays, seven Fridays, four Sundays, four Thursdays, one Wednesday, and one Monday. The package offers Checkers side mezzanine seats which are normally priced at $12.00 at Cricket Arena, while the Knights will be offering lower level reserve seats at Knights Stadium.

The unique ticket package is now on sale and can be purchased by calling the Checkers sales office at (704) 342-4423, or the Knights sales office at (704) 364-6637 or (803) 548-8050. The Checkers will begin their 11th season in the ECHL with the regular season and home opener Saturday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. hosting the Gwinnett (GA) Gladiators at Cricket Arena. The Checkers will also stage one preseason game at Cricket Arena on Monday, October 13 when they'll host the Columbia Inferno at 7:00 p.m. All tickets for the preseason game will be reserved and priced at $5.00. Individual tickets for all regular season and preseason games will go on sale on Monday, September 22. Season ticket! s for the 2003-04 season are now on sale. The Knights are the top affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, and play in the South Division of the International League. The Knights are battling for the South Division regular season championship, and will close out a six-game homestand tonight against the Durham Bulls at Knights Stadium.
