Capitals Re-Sign Stana

PORTLAND, ME - The Portland Pirates announced today that the Washington Capitals, their National Hockey League affiliate, re-signed goaltender Rastislav Stana to a one-year contract. The announcement was made by Capitals' Vice President and General Manager George McPhee. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Last season Stana, 23, earned a record of 8-11-4 in 24 appearances with the Pirates. He had a goals-against average of 2.17 and a save percentage of .933. He also earned two shutouts on the season, the first of his American Hockey League career.

The 6' 2", 185-pound native of Kosice, Slovakia was drafted by the Capitals in the seventh round, 193rd overall, in the 1998 Entry Draft and has yet to appear in an NHL game. In three seasons of professional hockey with the Pirates and Richmond of the East Coast Hockey League, Stana has earned a 44-47-10 record in 104 appearances.

The Pirates begin the 2003-2004 American Hockey League season on Friday, October 10 when they visit the Lowell Lock Monsters at 7:00 p.m. The Pirates open their home schedule on Friday, October 17 when they host the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7:05 p.m. Full and partial-season ticket packages are now on sale.
