NORWICH, CT - The Tri-City ValleyCats used a pair of late-inning three-run home runs to pull away from the Connecticut Tigers at Dodd Stadium on Monday night.

It was Enmanuel Valdez's seventh-inning dart that gave the ValleyCats the lead for good, before Carlos Machado provided the final blow in the ninth.

Connecticut took a 2-0 lead at the very start of the game, when Gresuan Silverio laced a two-run double in the first inning.

Tri-City then got a run back in the third, when Ramiro Rodriguez scored on a throwing error.

After Darwin Alvarado brought another run home for Connecticut in the sixth inning, the Tigers led the ValleyCats by two entering the seventh.

Valdez then cranked his fifth homer of the season, scoring Oscar Campos and Ramiro Rodriguez to give Tri-City its first lead of the game.

Machado then hit his third long ball of the year in the ninth inning, scoring Rodriguez and Valdez with the ValleyCats' final three runs.

Connecticut would tack on one more run in the ninth, but the ValleyCats were able to hold on, winning the game by a score of 7-4.

Juan Pablo Lopez earned the win by pitching three innings in relief for the ValleyCats, while only allowing one run.

Now with a record of 27-22, the ValleyCats remain atop the Stedler Division by 1.5 games over the Lowell Spinners.

Tri-City and Connecticut will meet again at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Connecticut for the rubber match of their three-game series, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
