Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
Travis Garcia went 3-for-5 with a homerun and three RBI as the Chillicothe Paints defeated the Traverse City Beach Bums 13-6.
The Beach Bums scored first in the top of the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Clay Blevins. Chillicothe seemed to take command in the game with four runs in the second and two more in the third to take a 6-1 lead.
Traverse City refused to quit, however. In the fourth, Kevin Gergel led off the inning, reaching on an error by Paul Rutgers. Al Roach doubled moving Gergel to third. With runners on second and third and nobody out, John Engers tallied his first professional hit, a three-run homerun to leftfield to bring TC back 6-4.
The Beach Bums came back to 6-5 as Engers came through again with an RBI single in the fifth.
Chillicothe went back up by three runs in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run homer by Travis Garcia.
Traverse City continued to show their fighting spark as in the top of the seventh. Nick Batkoski was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and was driven home on a double by Kevin White to make it 8-6 Chillicothe.
Chillicothe put the game away in the seventh inning with five runs keyed by a homerun by Steve Martin and a two-run triple by John Ramistella.
The two teams play again tomorrow as Steve Shippey (1-0) takes the mound for the Beach Bums against Lucas Palmer (0-1) takes the hill for the Paints. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 94.3 The Fox FM.
