COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The Fort Wayne Tincaps exploded for twelve runs and fifteen hits in the series finale win, 12-2, over the West Michigan Whitecaps on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Ballpark. With the win, Fort Wayne grabs the top spot in the eastern division by 1 game over West Michigan. Even in defeat, the Whitecaps claim a playoff spot for the sixth straight year.

The game belonged to Fort Wayne from start to finish. The Tincaps scattered their offense across 6 of the nine innings. Using a combination of men-on-base and hits, Fort Wayne totaled 2 runs in the first, 1 in the third, 3 runs in the fourth, 1 in the seventh, 2 runs in the eighth, and 3 more in the ninth.

Whitecaps' starter Mauricio Robles made his first start since coming off the disabled list. He lasted just 3.1 innings, surrendering 6 hits, 6 runs, on 4 walks, and 1 strikeout. Robles suffers the loss and is now 4-4.

Fort Wayne starter Mike Watt was more effective. Watt gave up 6 hits and 2 runs in 4.1 innings. He did walk 4 batters but struck out two. The relief work of Nick Schumacher was superb, as he threw 3.2 innings of scoreless relief for his third win.

Leadoff man Blake Tekotte had an outstanding night at the plate. Tekotte finished 3-4 with three RBI including a two-run homerun. Daniel Robertson and Allan Dykstra each had 3 hits as well.

The Whitecaps lone runs came in the third. Brent Wyatt came home on a Ronnie Bourquin sac fly, and Brandon Douglas scored on Billy Nowlin's base hit.

Douglas wound up 3-4 on the night. He was the only ‘Cap with more multiple hits.

West Michigan travels to Dayton for a four game series to end the first half of the 2009 season. Game one is set to start on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. from Fifth Third Field.
