
Bees Win Final Home Game of First Half

Burlington, IA (June 16, 2009) - The Burlington Bees won their final home game of the first half defeating Wisconsin 8-6. With the win, the Bees split the four-game series with the Timber Rattlers as they get set for their final series of the first half beginning Thursday in Peoria.
Wisconsin scored the first run of the ballgame in the top of the first inning. The Bees came back to tie the game by scoring one run in the bottom of the second. With one out, Sean McCauley singled, moved to second on a Chase Fontaine single and then to third when Juan Rivera reached on a Fielder's Choice. Fernando Garcia then singled to score McCauley for the Bees' first run of the day.
Wisconsin got the lead back scoring one run in the fifth inning. The Bees came back to tie it with a run in the bottom of the inning. Jarrod Dyson reached second base on a Fielder's Choice and then stole third. Nick Van Stratten then singled to score Dyson and tie the game. The Bees took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth scoring one run. David Wood singled with one out and moved to second on a McCauley ground-out. Fontaine then singled to score Wood and give the Bees the lead.
The lead was short-lived as Wisconsin scored four runs in the seventh to take a 6-3 lead. The Bees got their lead back scoring five runs in the bottom of the inning. The first two batters were retired before Van Stratten reached on an error. After a walk to Eric Hosmer, the Bees had four consecutive hits with Nick Francis, Wood and McCauley each picking up an RBI single. The final hit of the inning was a two-run double off the bat of Fontaine, which scored the final runs of the day for the Bees.
Mike Lehmann got the start and pitched five innings allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Manauris Baez pitched 1.1 innings allowing four runs, two of which were earned, on two hits with three walks. Barry Bowden picked up his first win of the season. He threw 2.2 shutout innings allowing just one hit with one strikeout and two walks. His record is now 1-2.
The Bees had 11 hits in the game. Fontaine led the way going 3-4 with three RBI. Wood, McCauley and Garcia each had two hits. Wood and McCauley also scored two runs.
The Bees begin their final series of the first half Thursday at Peoria. Mike Montgomery is the scheduled starter. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00. You can hear the game on News-Radio 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com.
