DAYTON, OH - Johermyn Chavez hit Lansing's first grand slam of the season and drove in six runs, leading the Lugnuts (25-40) to a 12-7 slugfest win over the host Dayton Dragons (26-40) on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Field.

The Lugnuts split the four-game series with Dayton, taking two victories by the combined score of 23-10 while losing two games by the combined score of 19-3.

The story of the game beyond Lansing's 15-hit offensive showing was home plate umpire Matt Neuhold's five ejections, including each manager.

In Chavez's first at-bat following his third inning grand slam, Dragons starter J.C. Sulbaran chucked a pitch over the head of the Venezuelan outfielder, causing Neuhold to immediately eject Sulbaran.

In the sixth inning, Dayton reliever Andrew Bowman and manager Todd Benzinger were given the heave-ho after Bowman plunked Justin McClanahan, who had earlier slugged his eighth home run of the season.

In the bottom of the sixth, Lansing starter John Anderson hit Kyle Day with his very first pitch. Neuhold responded by ejecting both Anderson and manager Clayton McCullough.

The game settled down from there.

Anderson (2-4) pitched the minimum five innings to earn the victory, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits. It was the southpaw's first win since May 3.

Sulbaran (2-1) suffered the loss, surrendering six runs on seven hits, including the Chavez and McClanahan roundtrippers, in his four innings.

Lugnuts first baseman Mike McDade added three hits in five at-bats to support the winning cause, assisted by two hits apiece from Chavez, Chris Emanuel, Luis Fernandez, and Jon Talley.

Lansing finishes off the first half of the 2009 Midwest League season with a four-game series in Midland, Michigan, against the Great Lakes Loons. Right-hander Josh Wells (3-7, 7.35) starts for the Lugnuts in the opener of the series on Thursday at 7:05 p.m., opposed by Loons right-hander JonMichael Redding (8-2, 5.03).
