June 17, 2009 - The Kane County Cougars scored in the first six innings en route to an 11-3 drubbing of the Cedar Rapids Kernels in front of 2,965 fans on Wednesday afternoon at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The win gives Kane County sole possession of first place in the MWL Western Division heading into the final four games of the first half.

Kernels starter Tyler Chatwood (3-4) was roughed up for seven runs on six hits over 3 innings as he spent most of the afternoon working behind in the count. Angel Castillo went 2 for 3 with a double and HR; Adam Younger was 1 for 4 with a double and RBI; and Matt Crawford extended his hitting streak to nine games by going 1 for 4 with an RBI.

Juan Nunez and Steve Kleen both had three hits for the Cougars as Kleen, Jason Christian and Jeremy Barfield hit home runs. Kane County starter Pedro Fiegueroa notched his seventh win, allowing seven hits and striking out five over six innings. Jamie Richmond worked three scoreless inning of relief for his fourth save.

The Kernels now host the Clinton LumberKings starting Thursday, June 18th at 6:35 pm, needing a series split to secure one of the two first half playoff berths. The Kernels lead Clinton by a half-game, as the LumberKings play in Beloit tonight at 7 pm.

Tomorrow is NFL Night at the stadium, featuring the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, presented by Innovative Aesthetics. The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will perform during the game and sign autographs for fans on the concourse. It's also a 100.7 The Fox Thirsty Thursday where 12 oz. draft beer is just $1.50 all game. Gates open at 5:30 pm.
