Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AUGUST 6, 2010) - Today the Dash received SS Greg Paiml (pronounced PAY-mul) from AA Birmingham. To make room on the roster, OF Jordan Cheatham was re-assigned to low-A Kannapolis.

Paiml returns to Winston-Salem after spending the entire season with the Barons. He played in 70 games for Birmingham, hitting .237 with two home runs and 21 RBI. He is coming off his best month of the season, batting .327 with eight RBI in July.

This will be the third straight season Paiml has played for Winston-Salem. He spent all of 2009 with the Dash, hitting .238 with four home runs, 29 doubles, and 46 RBI in 132 games. He played in 92 games for Winston in 2008 and hit .271 with three homers and 28 RBI, also playing 37 games for low-A Kannapolis.

Chicago drafted Paiml in the 15th round of the 2007 draft after he graduated from the University of Alabama. He was named the "Best Defensive Player" in the White Sox 2007 draft class by Baseball America and made his professional debut with Great Falls, where he hit .310 in 67 games. Paiml was named to the 2006 NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional All-Tournament Team as a junior with the Crimson Tide. He played for Hoover High School in Birmingham and was named the Birmingham News All-Metro Player of the Year as a junior. He served as a batboy, clubhouse assistant, and on the grounds crew with the Barons while in high school.

Cheatham finishes his second stint with the Dash this season. He re-joined Winston-Salem on July 7, a few days after Kenny Williams, Jr. went on the disabled list. He was also with the Dash for about a month earlier this season when Williams went on the D.L. for the first time. In 38 games with the Dash, Cheatham hit .250 with one home run, ten doubles, three triples, and 16 RBI.

The Dash's roster remains at the Carolina League limit of 25 players.

Winston plays a doubleheader at BB&T Ballpark tonight beginning at 6 p.m.
