Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Lynchburg edged Kinston 2-1 on Friday night at Grainger Stadium and have now taken the first two games of the four-game set. It was the second straight night the Hillcats went down 1-0 only to rally for the road win.

Kinston struck with the first run for the second straight game when they plated a run in the bottom of the third inning. Donnie Webb brought in that run with a sacrifice fly. Lynchburg quickly erased that deficit though with a run of their own in the top of the fourth. Denis Phipps homered to account for the run. It was his second long ball in two games in the series and his seventh in 20 games with the Hillcats.

That tie was snapped in the top of the sixth inning as the Hillcats took their first lead of the night at 2-1. Chris Richburg smacked an RBI double into the gap in left-center to break the 1-1 tie. It was Richburg's 12 RBI in 13 games since coming to the Hillcats from Low-A Dayton.

The win went to starter Jordan Hotchkiss (8-4) and the save to Donnie Joseph (12) for Lynchburg (16-22, 45-63). The Hillcats are now 8-6 in their last 14 games, while they have dropped 12 of their last 15 at City Stadium. Hotchkiss worked seven innings, gave up just one run and matched his career-high with eight strike outs. The loss went to reliever Chris Jones (2-2) for Kinston (17-22, 53-56).

Game three of the series is set for a 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night at Grainger Stadium. Right-hander Chase Ware (1-2, 3.03) will get the call for the Cats opposite righty Marty Popham (1-4, 4.62) for the Tribe.
