Syracuse Crunch News Release

Rochester, NY - Defenseman Nathan Paetsch recorded his second three-point effort against his former team (2g, 1a) this year, Maxime Macenauer and MacGregor Sharp both broke long goal draughts and Timo Pielmeier stopped 18 of 19 shots as the Syracuse Crunch defeated the rival Rochester Americans for the first time in four tries this season by a 4-1 score at the Blue Cross Arena.

Macenauer got the scoring started at the 12:40 mark of the first period when he went to the net, found the loose puck and pushed it just over the goal line to give the Crunch a 1-0 lead. The goal was Macenauer's first since November 21 at Rochester, a span of 17 games.

The score stayed that way until the 15:01 mark of the second period, when Paetsch took a feed from Patrick Maroon and whipped a slapper from the left point that ricocheted off a Rochester defenseman and past Tyler Plante to put the Crunch ahead 2-0.

The Crunch went up 3-0 just over four minutes later when they took advantage of a five-minute major penalty to Rochester's A.J. Jenks, after he was called for elbowing Patrick Maroon. Jenks was also given a game misconduct.

The play started when Mark Mitera rushed in down the left side, skated down below the goal line and fed a pass in front to Sharp, who corralled his own rebound and calmly tucked the puck in on the backhand to give the Crunch a three-goal lead and score his first goal since November 20 vs. Springfield, a span of 14 games.

Rochester got a quick goal while shorthanded just 19 seconds into the second period, when former Crunch defenseman Clay Wilson set up Scott Timmins and Timmins' shot slid by Pielmeier to cut it to 3-1.

Paetsch recorded his second of the night after taking a pass from Macenauer and cranking a shot the top corner past Plante to make it 4-1 at the 5:29 mark of the third.

The Crunch finished the game by outshooting Rochester by a 42-19 margin.
