In the win, Syracuse goaltender Timo Pielmeier posted 18 saves on 19 shots and also earned the third star of the game.

Syracuse made the score 1-0 midway through the opening period on a goal-mouth pile-up in front of Plante. In a scramble in front of the Rochester net, the puck bounced off the goal post and onto the stick of a falling Macenauer, who used his stick to poke it between the legs of Plante at 12:40. Trevor Smith (0+1) and Paetsch picked up the helpers.

After the first Amerks tally of the night was ruled "no goal", they were unable to tie it before the Crunch gained a two-goal advantage. With about five minutes remaining in the second stanza, Paetsch earned his second point of the night with a power-play goal right from the point. The goal was his sixth of the season, with Patrick Maroon (0+1) and Dan Sexton (0+1) assisting. With less than a minute to go in the period Sharp made it 3-0. After Plante denied his initial shot, Sharp grabbed his own rebound and buried the puck for his second of the year.

Rochester was finally able to respond 19 seconds into the third period with a goal by Timmins. After Kenndal McArdle (0+1) and Clay Wilson (0+1) dished the puck back and forth a few times, Wilson took a shot on Pielmeier, but missed. Timmins picked up the rebound and put one past Pielmeier for his eighth this season.

Paetsch earned his third point of the evening when he scored a second time and once again put the Syracuse club ahead by three. The goal was Paetsch's seventh this year, and came upon a pass from Macenauer. Paetsch grabbed the puck and fired it past Plante at 5:29. The assist also gave Macenauer a multiple-point game tonight and Trevor Smith (0+1) also helped on the marker.

Rochester remains at home on Sunday, January 2nd as the Adirondack Phantoms make their way west for their second and final trip to Western New York this season.
