Oklahoma City Barons News Release
The Edmonton Oilers assigned forward Linus Omark to Oklahoma City, Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini announced today. In a separate transaction, the Oilers recalled defenseman Shawn Belle.
During his recall to Edmonton, Omark appeared in eight games and registered one goal and four assists. He also created many debates within the sports world for the style he added to his shootout attempt on December 10 against Tampa Bay.
He returns to Oklahoma City ranked third on the Barons roster in goals (13) and fourth in points (26). He is expected to join the team tomorrow in Oklahoma City prior to their game against Rockford at 7:05 p.m.
Belle, a 6-2, 232-pounder from Edmonton is second among Barons defensemen in points with 19 (3-16-19). This is Belle's second call up to the Oilers this season. He was recalled November 16 and appeared in four games with the Oilers, registering seven shots.
The Barons complete a stretch of five games in six nights with back-to-back home games against the Rockford IceHogs at the Cox Convention Center tomorrow and Sunday. Faceoff Saturday night is 7:05 p.m., while faceoff Sunday is 3:05 p.m. Following the game Sunday, fans can skate with the entire Barons team on the ice at the Cox Convention Center. Fans may bring their skates or skates will be provided at no charge.
NOTES: The Rockford IceHogs roster contains a player some hockey fans in Oklahoma City may know. IceHogs defenseman Wade Brookbank played with the Oklahoma City Blazers of the CHL for two seasons. Following his stay in Oklahoma City, he has gone on to play in the AHL and NHL...Barons goaltnder Jeff Deslauriers helped Team Canada to the finals of the 2010 Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland. His 4-0 shutout of the host team propelled Team Canada to the finals where they were eventually downed 4-3 by SKA St. Petersburg.
