Adirondack Phantoms News Release
Greg Moore's game-winner with 3:54 remaining in the third period led Adirondack to their second victory in a row in a 2-1 decision over the Albany Devils on Saturday night in front of 3,221 at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Adirondack finished their three game homestand with a 2-1 record and also picked up their fifth win in their last seven games.
On the game-winner, Luke Pither made a great play to chop down the puck in the Devils zone along the boards. He then took a shot from the circle where Greg Moore picked up a rebound and jammed it past Frazee for the 2-1 lead. It was Moore's fourth goal of the year in as many games after he went 32 scoreless games to start the season.
The Devils would buzz around the Phantoms net in the final seconds but Brian Stewart held strong as the Phantoms evened the Time Warner Cable Cup series at two games apiece. Game five of the the 12 game season series is Wednesday night at Albany.
In an entertaining opening period, the Phantoms and Devils dropped the gloves twice. Matt Clackson and Marc-Andre Bourdon tilted with Myles Stoesz and Dan Kelly.
Albany would score first on the power play early in the second period. Michael Swift put home a Brian Stewart rebound to score his 11th of the year to give Albany a 1-0 lead 32 seconds in.
The Phantoms would answer four minutes later. After a great play behind the Devils net by Eric Wellwood, Michael Ryan would beat Albany goaltender Jeff Frazee back door to tie the score at 1-1. It was Michael Ryan's fourth goal of the year, a day after scoring in the shootout against Springfield.
Brian Stewart in the middle frame made a few great saves including one on Devils forward Adam Henrique point blank to keep the game tied at 1. Mike Testwuide got into a fight for the second straight game; this time taking on Harry Young who is 2nd on the Devils roster in penalty minutes.
That set the stage for Moore's late heroics as he scores a key third period goal for the second game in a row. Friday night against Springfield he tied the game at 2-2 early in the 3rd period. This time he broke the tie late in the third to extend his goal scoring streak.
Adirondack went 0-for-4 on the power play while Albany finished 1-for-2 on the man advantage. Adirondack outshot the Devils 31-19.
Brian Stewart earned his second straight victory making 18 saves while counterpart Jeff Frazee made 29 saves in defeat.
The Phantoms travel to Rochester for the last game of their stretch of six games in eight days. Adirondack has gone 3-2 so far in this busy run of games which also coincides with the beginning of Joe Paterson's coaching tenure with the Phantoms. The game is the beginning of a four game road swing for the Phantoms who do not return home until Friday, January 14 against the Hershey Bears.
