Canadiens Assign Brett Festerling to Bulldogs

MONTREAL, QC - The Montreal Canadiens announced today that defenceman Brett Festerling has been assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs from the Canadiens. Festerling and a fifth round draft pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft were acquired by Montreal in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for forward and former Bulldog, Maxim Lapierre. Festerling is scheduled to join the 'Dogs in Cleveland for their game against the Lake Erie Monsters tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Festerling, 24, was held pointless in one game with the Duck this season. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound defenceman has played in 32 games with the Syracuse Crunch this year, recording 12 points (three goals, nine assists) along with 41 penalty minutes. The native of Prince George, British Columbia has played in a total of 83 NHL games registering eight assists and 168 AHL games amassing 38 points (six goals, 32 assists). Prior to turning professional, Festerling played his junior hockey with the Tri City Americans and Vancouver Giants of the WHL between 2001 and 2007. He recorded a total of 69 points (15 goals, 54 assists) in 314 games, leading the Giants to the President Cup and a berth in the Memorial Cup Tournament in 2006 as they team captain.

The Bulldogs open 2011 tonight with a 7:30 p.m. game in Cleveland against the Lake Erie Monsters. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
