Paduch and Power Lead Lincoln to Victory

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs defeated both Shreveport-Bossier and the weather on Monday, beating the Captains 7-2 in a game played largely in the rain at Haymarket Park. Lincoln improves to 46-39 on the season, 17-20 in the second half.
Saltdogs starter Jim Paduch (8-6) came up big for his team when they needed it most, allowing just two runs on five hits over eight innings. Paduch struck out eight on the night and only allowed one earned run, giving him wins in back-to-back starts for the third time this season,
Lincoln, meanwhile, got to Captains starter Richard Salazar (8-4) early, with Juan Camacho driving in a first-inning run with an RBI single. The 'Dogs doubled their lead in the second inning on Pat Trettel's RBI double. Shreveport-Bossier closed to within 2-1 with an unearned run in the fifth, but Lincoln broke the game open in the sixth. Back-to-back singles with two out brought Gavin Dickey to the plate. Immediately after a flash of lightning in the sky, Dickey crushed a three-run homer to center field, giving the Saltdogs an insurmountable lead. The Captains plated their second run in the top of the eighth, but Lincoln closed the scoring in the bottom of the eighth with back-to-back solo home runs by Albenis Machado and Trettel.
Trettel finished the night 3-for-4 with his eighth home run, two RBI, two runs scored and his first career stolen base. Machado also went 3-for-4, tallying his third home run, an RBI and three runs scored. Dickey's homer was his 16th of the season, while Rafael Alvarez, Juan Richardson and Roberto Alvarez all had two hits apiece for Lincoln.
The two teams play game two of their three-game series Tuesday night at 7:05. Right-hander Chris Cullen is scheduled to take the mound for the Saltdogs.
