DURHAM, NC - The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball announced today that St. Paul LHP Matt Meyer (pictured) and Sioux City OF Jacob Cruz have been named the Pointstreak Batter and Pitcher of the Week. The selection was made by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the American Association.

Cruz signed with Sioux City on August 9th and wasted no time in making his presence felt throughout the Explorers' lineup. Cruz recorded a hit and an RBI in all seven games he played during the week, reaching base three times or more in five of the games. On the week, he hit .552 (16-for-29) with a .606 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage. Cruz tallied 15 RBI on the week and seven of his 16 hits fell for extra bases, including four doubles and three home runs. The 37-year-old spent parts of nine seasons in Major League Baseball.

Meyer appeared in four games for the Saints and recorded two wins and two saves in his appearances. The southpaw closer allowed just three baserunners in his 6.1 innings of work and struck out an impressive 12 batters. The 25-year-old's dominance is apparent with a glance at his numbers on the season, which show that he has allowed only 14 men to reach base in 21.1 innings on the entire season while striking out 42. Meyer improved his record to a perfect 3-0 on the season, earned his eighth and ninth saves, and maintained his perfect 0.00 ERA.
