Padres Can't Catch Sox

The Tucson Padres scored three late runs in their comeback attempt Tuesday but could not catch the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, who won 6-5. Anthony Rizzo drove in four of the Padres five runs, going 3-for-4 with a home run and a sacrifice fly. After starting slow following his option to Tucson, Rizzo has hit his stride, going 7-for-9 with two home runs and six RBIs over his last two games.
Colorado Springs won with clutch hitting Monday. The first three Sky Sox runs came via two out hits against former Sky Sox pitcher Samuel Deduno. Sky Sox outfielder Alfredo Amezaga was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Joe Mather had two hits and RBI after being added to the lineup minutes before game time when Chris Nelson was scratched. The Padres bullpen was excellent in the loss; Aaron Poreda and Luis Perdomo combined to retire nine consecutive batters from the seventh through ninth innings. Perdomo's ninth was especially impressive, retiring the side on nine pitches without throwing a ball.
Aaron Cunningham went 2-for-4 with two automatic doubles and is now hitting .329. The Padres are 49-54, in third place, 12.5 games out of first place.
