Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

On Tuesday, Hot Rods infielder Kevin Padlo was selected as the primary third basemen for the 2016 Midwest League Post Season All-Star team.

As one of six representatives from Bowling Green to play in the Midwest League all-star game this year, Padlo is the only Hot Rods player to make the postseason all-star team. The Southern California native is currently on pace to break the franchise-record with a league-leading 75 walks while he also ranks second in the league with 16 homers.

As a catalyst to the best overall offense in the Midwest League, his 61 runs batted in rank second on the team and he is one of four Hot Rods players who have scored 60 or more runs this season. He is one of six players in the league who has both driven in and scored 60 or more runs this year.

Padlo is the first Hot Rods player to make the Midwest League Post Season All-Star team since Kean Wong in 2014. He is the tenth Hot Rods player to earn that accolade since 2010 when the organization joined the Midwest League.

The 20-year-old came to the Tampa Bay Rays organization last offseason in a trade from the Colorado Rockies that involved big leaguers Jake McGee and Corey Dickerson along with former Hot Rods hurler German Marquez.

Selected in the fifth round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Rockies, Padlo was named a Pioneer League All-Star with the Grand Junction Rockies that year and he was voted as a Northwest League all-star last year as a member of the Eugene Emeralds.

"I'm so happy for him, he's doing a great job for this team and he's fit in really well with us and this organization over the year," said Hot Rods Manager Reinaldo Ruiz.

"With the numbers, the way he plays defense at third base, the way he goes about his business at 20 years old, he is showing that he's got a lot of talent."

Padlo was the third-youngest player selected as a Midwest League post-season all-star this year, only older than South Bend Cubs outfielder and Midwest League MVP Eloy Jimenez along with Cedar Rapids Kernels second basemen Luiz Arraez. He is the #21 ranked prospect in the Rays organization per MLB Pipeline.

To see Padlo and the rest of his teammates, the Hot Rods will return home to Bowling Green Ballpark to start a four-game series with the Dayton Dragons on Friday, August 26.
