Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

MIDLAND, Mich. -- Even when it got better for the TinCaps, it got worse on Monday night at Dow Diamond. For the first time in 10 games, Fort Wayne managed to score three runs in a game. But in this one, that wound up not being enough, as the Great Lakes Loons (Los Angeles Dodgers) overcame two different deficits to come back and win in walk-off fashion, 4-3.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and runners at first and second, in a 3-3 game, Loons second baseman Omar Estevez smacked a 1-2 pitch from Elvin Liriano (L, 1-2) to the gap in left-center field to score Darien Tubbs and win the game.

The TinCaps (21-36, 57-70) now have lost 10 road games in the ninth inning or later this season. Fort Wayne trails Lansing by seven games for the Eastern Division's final playoff spot with 13 games remaining.

The Estevez walk-off came after first baseman Ibandel Isabel tied the game, 3-3, with a solo home run in the eighth. The left-handed Liriano had been in the game since the start of the sixth, following after starter Emmanuel Ramirez went the first five, striking out five.

Back in the fifth, an RBI single from designated hitter Tyler Selesky gave the TinCaps a 2-1 edge. A José Carlos Ureña RBI groundout increased Fort Wayne's lead to 3-1.

The Loons (27-29, 56-70) got a run back in the home fifth to make it a one-run game. Dennis Santana (W, 5-9) allowed the two runs in the top of the inning upon entering the game, but proved resilient with four scoreless frames after that.

Earlier, both sides scored a run in the third. Fort Wayne's came on a Peter Van Gansen groundout.
