West Michigan found their offense against the South Bend bullpen as the Whitecaps rallied past the Cubs 6-5 Tuesday at Four Winds Field.

Cubs reliever Carson Sands entered the ball game for the sixth inning looking to protect a 5-0 South Bend lead. But the left hander would allow eight hits and six runs in just one and two thirds of an inning and took the loss.

The Cubs pushed the lead to 4-0 in the fourth thanks to an RBI single by Vimael Machin scoring Eddy Martinez who had doubled. After an Andruw Monasterio infield hit, Adonis Paula doubled home Machin and Monasterio to put the Cubs up by four.

Oscar de La Cruz threw five shutout innings allowing five hits but walks away with a no decision after leaving the game with a five run lead..

The Cubs will pitch Adbert Alzolay (9-4, 4.32) against West Michigan at Four Winds Field Wednesday at 7:05pm(ET) on 96.1fm WSBT. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
