Providence Bruins News Release

Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Providence Bruins defeated the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins Sunday afternoon 4-2 in their first trip of the season to Mohegan Sun Arena. The P-Bruins got goals from Ryan Fitzgerald, Peter Cehlarik, Ryan Donato and Jakub Zboril while Zane McIntyre made his 11th start of the season in net.

Taking advantage of an early power play, Providence grabbed a 1-0 lead just 2:56 into the game with tic-tac-toe passing. Ryan Donato started the play inside the right circle by sending a cross-ice pass to Jan Kovar at the bottom of the left circle. He fired the puck across the crease to a waiting Fitzgerald, who buried the chance into the open net for his sixth goal of the season. The score remained the same until there were just 44 seconds left in the frame, when the Penguins scored a power play goal of their own. Adam Johnson took the puck at the right hash and fired a low shot through the five-hole of McIntyre. His fifth goal of the season sent the teams to the locker room knotted 1-1.

Midway through the second period, the P-Bruins offense struck for two quick even-strength tallies. The first came seconds after the conclusion of a power play, as Mark McNeill found Cehlarik alone in the slot before Wilkes-Barre Scranton could get set. With plenty of room, he beat Anthony Peters over the shoulder for his second goal of the year at 11:55 to make it 2-1. Just 1:05 later, Donato doubled the lead after a beautiful pass from Fitzgerald. From the left wing corner, he sent a turn-around backhanded pass to Donato in close who showed off soft hands to score his fifth goal of the season and send Providence to the intermission up 3-1.

McIntyre, who has had the Penguins number over the years, continued to shine against the division rival with an excellent game. Wilkes-Barre Scranton peppered him with shots, but he made some excellent reactionary saves to the keep the score where it was. Jarrett Burton made it a 3-2 game with 4:04 left in the game, but that is as close as the Penguins could get. Zboril sealed the deal with an empty net goal and Providence walked away 4-2 winners.

McIntyre stopped 31 of 33 shots while Peters stopped 15 of 18. McIntyre's 31 saves was a season-high for the goaltender. Providence was 1-2 on the power play and 3-4 on the penalty kill. The P-Bruins are back in action Friday night at the Dunk when they welcome the division leading Charlotte Checkers to town at 7:05pm for the first time this season.
