Hogs Bottom out in Defensive Struggle with Ads
November 25, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill. - The IceHogs earned a point thanks to another solid outing from Collin Delia and a stingy effort from the penalty-killing unit, but in a defensive struggle that ended in a shootout, Anthony Richard provided the clinching marker for the Milwaukee Admirals and lifted them to a 2-1 victory over the Hogs Friday night at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
Delia turned away 28 of 29 shots, extending his league-leading save total to 414 in the process.
For 50 seconds of sudden-death overtime, the IceHogs faced a 5-on-3 disadvantage after minor penalties from Tyler Sikura and Nathan Noel. The penalty-killing unit rallied and was able to help the Hogs survive to the shootout.
Richard beat Delia in the first round of the shootout session with a forehand-backhand move to the blocker side. The tally would hold up as the winner as Milwaukee goaltender Troy Grosenick foiled the attempts of Rockford's Anthony Louis and Victor Ejdsell.
Matheson Iacopelli gave the IceHogs the early lead at the 3:01 mark of the first period. Iacopelli capitalized after Grosenick coughed up the puck while trying to play it behind the net, leaving the 24-year-old forward with a yawning cage.
Justin Kirkland provided the Milwaukee response just 41 seconds later, finessing in a backhand shot from in tight that changed direction off an IceHogs stick.
Next Home Game: Saturday, Dec. 1 vs. Milwaukee Admirals | 6 p.m.
The IceHogs will host the Milwaukee Admirals for Teddy Bear Toss Night at the BMO Harris Bank Center. Fans are encouraged to bring in plush toys/animals to throw on the ice after the IceHogs score their first goal of the game. The stuffed animals will then be donated to local hospitals and kids charities.
