Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Worcester Sharks 1-0 this evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins are back in action at The Dunk on Friday, January 20 versus the Worcester Sharks for Dunkin' Donuts Mug Night.
In what is always a physical game between two Atlantic Division rivals, the P-Bruins came out playing physical and literally fighting for the point to inch closer to the Sharks in the tight division race. It only took a 1:48 for the first gloves to dropped to the ice and players to square off. Bobby Robins, a new addition to the P-Bruins made a lasting impact on the Sharks' Nick Petrecki landing a couple of rights in an easy decision. Besides exchanging blows, the teams exchanged scoring opportunities. However, it was a battle of the goalies as solid play from both Providence's Michael Hutchinson and Worcester's Harri Sateri kept the game scoreless heading into the first intermission.
It was evident from the early minutes of the second period that both teams' frustrations were rising as neither could find the back of the net. Despite the physical play, the P-Bruins dominated offensively and controlled the play in the Sharks' offensive zone. A hard-pressing forecheck from the likes of Jamie Arniel and Kyle MacKinnon forced numerous Sharks turnovers and created opportunities on Sateri. However, the bad bounces and deflections kept the P-Bruins off the board and the teams went into the second intermission scoreless.
The momentum shifted in the early moments of the final frame as Brandon Mashinter capitalized on breakaway, beating Hutchinson low stick side at 1:16. The P-Bruins offense didn't let up as they continued to crash Sateri with shots. However, the club couldn't catch a break and find the back of the net, falling to the Sharks 1-0.
Hutchinson suffered the loss, stopping 25 Worcester shots, while Sateri was flawless, stopping all 23 of Providence's attempts.
The P-Bruins are on the road for the remainder of the weekend. The club travels to Bridgeport tomorrow for a 7 p.m. meeting with the Sound Tigers, before closing out the weekend in Springfield on Sunday. The team returns to action at The Dunk on Friday, January 20 versus the Worcester Sharks. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. for "Dunkin' Donuts Mug Night," which are free to first 3,000 fans.
