Aeros hold on for a 2-1 win

PEORIA, Ill. --- Justin Fontaine and Joel Broda scored less than six minutes apart, and the Houston Aeros held on for a 2-1 win over the Peoria Rivermen Friday night at Carver Arena for their third straight win.

Darcy Kuemper made 22 saves as the Aeros improved to 21-8-2-7 and climbed back into a tie with the Oklahoma City Barons for first place in the AHL's West Division.

T.J. Hensick gave Peoria a 1-0 lead at 7:23 in the first period on a power play goal, but the Aeros responded with a power play goal by Fontaine at 13:11 in the first to tie it at 1-1.

Broda put the Aeros ahead 2-1 at 18:43 in the first with his eighth goal of the year.

Houston ends its four-game road trip this Saturday at Peoria at 7 p.m. before hosting the San Antonio Rampage at 7:35 p.m. Friday at Toyota Center.
