Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 20th season in the American Hockey League, today announced that the Boston Bruins have assigned defenseman Ryan Button to the Reading Royals of the ECHL.
Button, 20, has skated in 12 games for Providence and recorded an assist. In his last trip to Reading, the defenseman tallied his first professional goal and added two assists in four games with the Royals. The Edmonton, AB, native joined the P-Bruins for seven games at the end of last season and tallied on assist. Boston's third round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, the rookie blue liner spent four years in the Western Hockey League, including three with the Prince Albert Raiders before a mid-season trade brought him to the Seattle Thunderbirds last season. In 2008-09 with Prince Albert, Button scored a career-high 32 assists and 37 points in 70 regular season games.
The Royals (14-14-3-3) are currently in third place in the Atlantic Division. Last season, the Royals clinched first place in the Atlantic Division with a 44-23-2-3 record. The club advanced to the second round of the playoffs, before falling to the Kalamazoo Wings in four games. Button joins former P-Bruins Rob Kwiet, Olivier Labelle, Marvin Degon and Karel St. Laurent.
The P-Bruins are back in action on Friday, January 13 versus the Worcester Sharks . The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. for "Kids T-Shirt Night," which are free to the first 1,000 kids 12 and under. The club is on the road the rest of the weekend, stopping in Bridgeport on Saturday and closing out the weekend in Springfield on Sunday.
