P-Bruins fall to Pirates 6-3

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Portland Pirates 6-3 Wednesday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got goals from David Lundbohm, Eric Healey and Pascal Pelletier. The P-Bruins are now 29-23-1-2 on the season, 61 points and in fourth place in the Atlantic Division.

The Pirates got on the board first at the 13:11 mark of the opening period. Dustin Penner caused a turnover at the left point in the P-Bruins zone and skated in 2 on 1 with Gavey. Penner passed the puck off to Gavey who put it under the crossbar to give Portland a 1-0 lead. 31 seconds later the Pirates took a 2-0 lead. Joel Perrault freed the puck behind the net and fed Pierre Parenteau who was parked in the slot. Parenteau snuck the puck past Jordan Sigalet blocker side as the Pirates went into the first intermission leading 2-0.

The Pirates extended their lead in the second period when they went on a 5 on 3 power play. Kent Huskins scored from just inside the blue line as the Pirates opened up a 3-0 lead. Portland went up 4-0 at the 6:09 mark of the second period as Parenteau scored his second goal of the game from the far boards. The goal drove Sigalet from the game as Brian Eklund took his place. The P-Bruins answered back with two power play goals to go into the second intermission trailing 4-2. The first P-Bruins goal was scored at the 14:13 mark when Lundbohm blasted the puck from the blue line past Portland netminder Nathan Marsters. Dieter Kochan started the game in net for the Pirates but got injured early in the second period and had to be lifted. Pelletier and Nathan Robinson had the assists. Providence went back on the power play minutes later and at the 15:57 mark Healey scored his 23rd goal of the season from just outside the crease. Pelletier had the lone assist.

In the third Portland scored twice more to take a 6-2 advantage. Penner scored a power play goal at the 15:16 mark and Garrett Bembridge tallied at the 16:43 mark. The P-Bruins added one more in the last minute of the game from Pelletier with Robinson getting the assist as the P-Bruins fell to Portland 6-3.

Sigalet stopped 10 of 14 shots for the P-Bruins and Eklund made 19 saves, while Kochan stopped all seven shots he faced and Marsters stopped 16 of 19 shots for the Pirates. The P-Bruins were 2 for 9 on the power play, while Portland was 2 for 7 on the man-advantage.

The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center against the Norfolk Admirals on Friday, February 24 at 7:05 p.m. The first 3,000 fans will receive lanyards courtesy of the U.S. Army Recruiting Company. The P-Bruins are also home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Saturday, February 25 versus the Manchester Monarchs at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive clappers courtesy of Wave Federal Credit Union.
