
P-Bruins Fall To Devils 4-1

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Lowell Devils 4-1 Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their lone goal from Nate Thompson. The P-Bruins finished the regular season with a record of 55-18-3-4 and are the Regular Season League Champions. The P-Bruins begin the playoffs at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Wednesday against the Manchester Monarchs at 7:05 p.m.
The Devils opened the scoring at the 1:10 mark of the first period. Jason Ryznar tallied his ninth goal of the season, an unassisted goal. Lowell went into the first period with a 1-0 lead.
Lowell took a 2-0 advantage at the 2:44 mark of the second period. Ivan Khomutov netted his 13th goal of the season, with Grant Marshall and Ryznar recording the assists. The Devils led 2-0 after two periods.
In the third period, the Devils scored at the 25 second mark to take a 3-0 lead. Nicklas Bergfors scored his 12th goal of the season, while Ryan Murphy and Petr Vrana picked up the assists. With time running out in regulation, the P-Bruins pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker and it paid off. At the 19:18 mark, Thompson tallied his 19th goal of the season with Jeff Hoggan and Pascal Pelletier grabbing the assists. The Devils finished off the scoring at the 19:54 mark though, with an empty net goal from Ryznar, his tenth of the season and second of the game. Khomutov and Bergfors had the assists as the Devils went on to the 4-1 victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 14 of 16 shots and Adam Courchaine stopped six of seven shots for the P-Bruins, while Frank Doyle made 33 saves for the Devils. The P-Bruins went 0-for-5 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Regular Season League Champion P-Bruins return to the Dunkin' Donuts Center for the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs on Wednesday and Friday versus the Manchester Monarchs.
