Manitoba Moose News Release
Despite a 4-3 victory over the Toronto Marlies in their final game of the 2007-08 regular season, the Manitoba Moose still wound up in third place in the North Division, one point behind the Syracuse Crunch. They will now open their 2008 Calder Cup North Division Semi-Final versus the Crunch at the Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter in Syracuse with Game 1 going Friday, April 18th at 6:30 p.m. CT.
This regular season was once again a successful one for the Moose as several franchise and individual records were either tied of broken. This year, the Moose tied a team mark for the most road wins in a season with 23 (tied 1998-99) and allowed the fewest goals in franchise history (185 - old record was 201 last season). Their overall record of 46-27-3-4 for 99 points was second-most wins in a season in franchise history (47 - 1998-99) and the fourth-most points. Leading scorer Brad Moran led the way with a career-high 77 points (22G, 55A) which left him sixth in AHL scoring. Rookie Cory Schneider also set a new franchise marks for a rookie goalie including the goals against average (2.28), wins (21), and games played (36). He also finished with the second lowest goals against average in one season in Moose history (Drew MacIntyre - 2006-07 - 2.17). Michael Grabner also set a new team mark with the most goals in rookie franchise history with 22 which led the Moose.
The Moose and Crunch will face each other in the opening round of the Calder Cup playoffs for the second time in three years. The two teams also met in the 2006 North Division Semi-Final when the Moose came back from a 2-0 series deficit to win four straight games and take the series in six.
