P-Bruins Fall in Shootout to Monarchs 4-3

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Manchester Monarchs 4-3 in a shootout Saturday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Nathan Robinson, Jonathan Sigalet and Ben Guite. The P-Bruins are now 29-24-1-3 on the season, 62 points and in fourth place in the Atlantic Division.

The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead as the Monarchs first power play of the game expired. Right out of the penalty box Robinson skated into the Monarchs zone 2 on 1 with Guite who had the puck. He passed it off to Robinson who waited for Manchester goaltender Barry Brust to commit to the left post before backhanding the puck into the net inside the right post. Eric Nickulas had the second assist. The Monarchs tied the game at one at the 6:14 mark of the first period when Denis Grebeshkov blasted the puck from the blue line past Providence netminder Jordan Sigalet. Manchester took their first lead of the game at the 12:05 mark of the opening period. Mark Ardelan took a shot, which Sigalet stopped, but the rebound landed on the stick of Lauri Tukonen and he put the puck in the net. After the goal Sigalet was lifted for Brian Eklund, who gave up one goal in the first period at the 17:51 mark to Richard Seeley as the Monarchs headed into the first intermission leading 3-1.

The P-Bruins battled back in the second period scoring twice. The P-Bruins scored an even strength goal at the 13:47 mark when Eric Healey fed the puck to Sigalet who was waiting at the right post. The puck landed on his stick and he backhanded it under the crossbar to bring the P-Bruins within a goal. Tyler Redenbach had the other assist. The P-Bruins went into the second intermission tied at three after Guite scored a power play goal at the 19:03 mark. Nickulas and Sigalet had the assists.

After a scoreless third period and overtime the game went into a shootout where the Monarchs Jeff Tambellini and Brad Smyth scored in rounds three and four respectively. The P-Bruins were unable to score as the Monarchs earned the 4-3 shootout victory.

Sigalet stopped 4 of 6 shots, while Eklund stopped 19 of 20 shots for the P-Bruins. Brust stopped 36 of 39 shots for the Monarchs. The P-Bruins were 1 for 5 on the power play, while Manchester was 1 for 7 on the man-advantage.

The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Sunday, February 26 versus the Monarchs at 4:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive Providence Bruins foam fingers courtesy of CollegeBoundfund.
