Mark Cullen and Matt Keith both scored twice and the Admirals netted three power play goals as they defeated the Falcons 5-2 on Saturday night in Springfield.

The Admirals wasted little time taking command of the contest. In the opening minute of the game, Pavel Vorobiev picked off a pass in the Springfield zone and sent a shot from the slot on Falcons goaltender Jonathan Boutin. Boutin stopped the initial shot, but Matt Keith stashed the rebound home just 53 seconds into the game. Three minutes later, Mark Cullen doubled the Admirals' advantage on the power play. Carl Corazzini sent a shot from the right face-off dot that Boutin stopped. Cullen found the rebound in the crease and sent the puck inside the left post at 3:41. Nathan Barrett increased the Norfolk lead to 3-0 seven minutes later with another man advantage marker. Corazzini sent a pass from the corner to the left of Boutin to an un-guarded Barrett in the low slot. Barrett deked forehand before sending a backhander top shelf at 10:35. Falcons' right winger Darren Reid scored off a goalmouth scramble at 17:32 to cut the Admirals advantage to two goals. Both teams sent 12 shots on net in the first period, and Norfolk took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.

Springfield's Dan Cavanaugh scored a rebound goal on a five-on-three power play 1:58 into the second period to briefly draw the Falcons within one goal of the Admirals. However, Cullen restored Norfolk's two-goal lead six minutes later with his second tally of the evening. James Wisniewski sent a blueline blast that Cullen got a stick on in the slot. The puck deflected between the goaltender's pads and into the back of the net at 7:32. Seven minutes later, the Admirals scored their third power play goal in as many tries. Jason Morgan sent a pass from along the goal line to the left of Boutin to Keith between the hashmarks. The Admirals' winger sent a one-timer through traffic that dented the twine for his second goal of the game at 14:47. Springfield held an 8-7 edge in shots in the middle frame, but Norfolk took a 5-2 lead into the third period.

Neither team lit the lamp in a defensive final frame as the teams combined for only seven shots in the period. The Admirals were victorious by a final score of 5-2.

Corey Crawford picked up the victory and made 22 saves on 24 shots. Jonathan Boutin got the loss giving up five goals on 22 shots.

The Admirals were 3-9 on the power play while the Falcons were 1-5.
