Barons Winning Streak Ends at Two

ROSEMONT, IL -- The AHL's largest crowd of the season, 16,607, enjoyed an 8-0 win by their hometown Wolves on Saturday night at Allstate Arena in Rosemont Illinois. Eight separate players registered multi-point nights for Chicago who finished the four game series against the Barons at 3-1-0-0.

In a night dominated by the Chicago power play the Wolves scored twice with the man-advantage for a 2-0 lead after the opening twenty minutes of action. Scott Barney's 17th goal of the year occurred just 2:29 into the game as he slipped a wrist shot over the right shoulder of Barons goaltender Nolan Schaefer for the night's first goal. Braydon Coburn followed for the Wolves with a slap shot from the blue line that rang off the post and behind Schaefer. The Barons were out-shot 12-6 in the period.

A barrage of offense from Chicago matched a season worst five goals allowed in a period by the Barons this season. Derek MacKenzie began the onslaught with an even strength goal at 6:34. Colin Stuart scored his eighth to extend the Chicago lead to 4-0 less than a minute later at 7:29. Chicago's power play kicked their game into high gear again setting up MacKenzie's second of the period for a 5-0 lead at 13:25. Kip Miller then scored back-to-back even strength goals to finish the period for Chicago giving the Wolves a 7-0 advantage through forty minutes of action.

A single goal by Chicago in the third period completed an 8-0 win over the Barons. Justin Morrison earned his third assist of the game setting up Brian Maloney's 10th goal of the season at the 8:15 mark. Dimitri Patzold, who entered the game for Cleveland in relief duty for Schaefer, made 12-saves on 13-shots against from the Wolves.

The Barons wrap up a five game road stretch on Wednesday night at Grand Rapids. Game time is at 7 O'clock and will be broadcast live on the Barons official web site, www.clevelandbarons.net. The Barons then return home for back-to-back games against Hamilton on Friday, March 3rd and Saturday, March 4th at 7pm.
