'Dogs Down Sens in Shootout

Binghamton, NY - Bulldogs goaltender Jaroslav Halak stopped 38 shots as well as three of four shootout attempts in his first career AHL game as Hamilton defeated the Binghamton Senators 3-2 on Saturday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. It was the Bulldogs' third straight win and improves the team's record to 25-32-0-3.

Binghamton opened the scoring just 4:27 into the game while on the power play. Charlie Stephens passed the puck to Jeff Heerema, who took a one-time shot from the point that beat Hamilton goaltender Jaroslav Halak.

Andrei Kostitsyn tied the game at the 5:16 mark of the second period with the Bulldogs on a two-man advantage. Corey Locke won the face-off in the Senators zone and Kostitsyn fired a high wrist shot past Binghamton netminder Billy Thompson.

Hamilton scored their second power play goal of the game to take a 2-1 lead just 23 seconds into the third period. Brad Winchester was skating towards the Binghamton net and after receiving a pass from Kostitsyn he made a few moves before sliding the puck behind Thompson. Filip Novak tied the game at 2-2 with just 2:43 remaining in regulation when he skated into the high slot, picked up the puck and snapped a shot past Halak.

The Sens outshot the 'Dogs 7-3 in a scoreless overtime period.

In the shootout, Hamilton's goal scorers were Marc-Antoine Pouliot, Locke, and Winchester. Stephens was the only Senator able to beat Halak.

Hamilton was 2 for 8 on the power play while Binghamton went 1 for 6.

The Bulldogs next game will take place tomorrow, Sunday, February 26th when they take on the Rochester Americans at Blue Cross Arena. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Bulldogs next home game is Friday, March 10th when the Manitoba Moose visit Copps Coliseum. Game time is 7:30 p.m. This game can be seen live on Hamilton's Cable 14.
