PROVIDENCE, RI - Right wing Brad Smyth and left wing Jeff Tambellini collected shootout tallies and goaltender Barry Brust blanked four shooters in the Manchester Monarchs 4-3 shootout victory over the Providence Bruins at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in front of 7,845 fans on Satruday night.

Manchester (34-18-2-4, 74 points) is in a second place tie with the Hartford Wolf Pack (33-16-2-6, 74 points) in the Atlantic Division. Providence (29-24-1-3, 62 points) is in fourth place in the Atlantic Division.

Center Nathan Robinson started the scoring with his 23rd goal of the season at 4:06 of the opening period. The Bruins successfully killed off Robinson's two-minute penalty for tripping when center Ben Guite fed the puck over to Robinson streaking to the net. Robinson collected the puck and sent a backhander past Brust to give Providence a 1-0 lead. Right wing Eric Nickulas assisted on the first goal of the game.

The next three goals came off the sticks of Monarchs defenseman Denis Grebeshkov, right wing Lauri Tukonen and defenseman Richard Seeley. Grebeshkov earned his first tally of the season at 6:14 of the first period as he let a slap shot go from the center point that skipped through traffic and past Bruins goaltender Jordan Sigalet. Center Connor James collected the lone assist on the goal.

Tukonen gave the Monarchs their first lead of the game with his 11th goal of the season at 12:05 of the first stanza. Tambellini passed the puck to defenseman Mark Ardelan who fired a point blank shot at Sigalet from the edge of the right face-off circle. Sigalet made the initial save but the rebound bounced directly to Tukonen at the left side of the net and the rookie was able to toss the puck into the net to give the Monarchs a 2-1 lead.

The Bruins replaced Sigalet with Brian Eklund following Tukonen's goal.

Scoring his second goal in as many nights, Seeley earned a power play tally at 17:51 of the opening period. Right wing Ryan Murphy fed the puck from the corner to Seeley positioned directly between the two face-off circles. Seeley blasted a shot past Eklund for his third tally of the season.

The Bruins answered back with two goals in the second period from defenseman Jonathan Sigalet and Guite. Sigalet collected the puck in the slot and was able to sneak the puck over the goal line just inside of the right post. Centers Eric Healy and Tyler Redenbach assisted on Sigalet's fifth goal of the season at 13:47.

Guite tied the game at 3-3 with his 18th tally of the season at 19:03 of the middle frame. With James in the penalty box for holding, the Bruins set up the power play in the Monarchs zone. Sigalet passed the puck to Nickulas at the point who then sent the puck to Guite at the bottom of the left face-off circle. Guite jammed a shot past Brust for the tying power play goal.

The score stayed 3-3 throughout the third period and the overtime session to push the impending shootout. Brust shutout all four of Providence's shootout snipers. The Monarchs top two scoring leaders Smyth and Tambellini scored in the shootout. Tambellini was able to sneak the puck past Eklund on the blocker side and Smyth blasted a shot past Eklund's glove to earn the 4-3 victory.

Brust (15-8-1) collected his third shootout victory and 15th win of the season stopping 36 shots. Eklund (5-14-2) was credited with the shootout loss, his second of the season, with 20 saves in just under 53 minutes of work. Sigalet stopped four shots in 12 minutes and five seconds of play in the first period.

Manchester went 1-for-7 on the power play. Providence was 1-for-5 with the man advantage.
