
P-Bruins Fall In Shootout, 4-3

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Binghamton Senators in a shootout 4-3 Friday evening in front of 8,907 fans at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Matt Hendricks, Pascal Pelletier and Jonathan Sigalet. The 42-15-3-2 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Saturday versus the Manchester Monarchs at the Verizon Wireless Arena at 7:05 p.m. Providence movess seven points ahead of the second place Hartford Wolf Pack.
The Senators took the 1-0 lead at the 2:58 mark of the opening period. Jim McKenzie scored his first goal and Matt Carkner recorded the lone assist. Binghamton opened up a 2-0 advantage, while on the power play at the 12:12 mark. Lawrence Nycholat tallied his eleventh goal of the season, with Alexander Nikulin and Carkner picking up the assists. The P-Bruins battled back to tie the game heading into the first intermission. At the 17:07 mark, the puck hit Pelletier as he was heading to the bench and landed on the stick of Hendricks. He skated into the right circle and shot the puck past Binghamton goaltender Brian Elliott for his 18th of the season. With five seconds left in the intermission the P-Bruins tied the game at two. Matt Hunwick worked the puck out of the P-Bruins zone up to Martins Karsums who skated through the neutral zone and from the right boards tossed the puck towards the net. Pelletier was there to tip the puck into the net for his 29th goal of the season.
In the second period, the P-Bruins took their first lead of the night at the 8:09 mark, while on the power play. Byron Bitz dug the puck out of the corner and flipped it to Pelletier behind the net. He sent it to Sigalet just outside the crease. Elliot was there to make the first save, but Sigalet put home his own rebound for his third goal of the season. Binghamton tied the game at three at the 14:40 mark on an unassisted goal from Nikulin, his tenth of the season. The game went into the second intermission tied at three.
After a scoreless third period and overtime the game went into a shootout. The Senators took a 2-0 advantage in the shootout on goals from Niko Dimitrakos and Josh Hennessy. The P-Bruins came back to tie the shootout at two on goals from Aaron Slattengren and Karsums. The Senators went ahead in the shootout for good on a goal from Nycholat and the 4-3 shootout victory.
Jordan Sigalet stopped 23 of 26 shots for the P-Bruins, while Elliott made 30 saves for the Senators. The P-Bruins were 1-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
