Providence Bruins News Release

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins topped the Hartford Wolf Pack 5-1 Tuesday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center to even the best-of-seven Atlantic Division Semi-Finals series at 2-2 with Game 5 scheduled for Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. in Rhode Island. The P-Bruins got their goals from five different players, including Ben Walter, Jeff Hoggan, Sean Curry, Petr Kalus and Pascal Pelletier.

Providence opened the scoring 11:31 into the first period en route to out-shooting Hartford 11-3 in the first frame when Walter beat a Wolf Pack defender to a loose puck and lunged forward to poke a shot past netminder Al Montoya for his first playoff point of the year. The unassisted tally gave the P-Bruins a 1-0 lead.

They would score twice more in the second period, sandwiched around the Wolf Pack's lone goal, as Hoggan first stole a puck in the neutral zone, raced up the far boards and wristed a shot past Montoya from the top of the circle. The goal, also unassisted, came with the P-Bruins short-handed, putting them ahead 2-0 at the 7:59 mark. Just over one minute later, the Wolf Pack got the goal back when Brandon Dubinsky and Greg Moore teamed to set up Dane Byers to the left of Providence goalie Hannu Toivonen, Byers' first goal of the post-season. But the P-Bruins regained the two-goal advantage while on the power play at the 13:22 mark. David Krejci took a pass from T.J. Trevelyan and then fed a cutting Curry for his second goal and a 3-1 Providence lead. With the assist, Krejci extended his points-streak to 11 games dating back to the regular season, during which time the rookie has four goals and 11 assists. Trevelyan's point was his first of the playoffs.

The third period belonged to Providence with another two goals just over six minutes apart. Only 1:16 in, Kalus was set up in the top of the slot by Mark Stuart, playing in his first game of the series, and converted for a 4-1 advantage as Hoggan earned the second assist for his second point of the night. Then, at the 7:35 mark, Pelletier netted his second goal of the post-season, also from the slot, after taking a pass from Walter, who finished with a multiple-point outing.

Toivonen blocked 23 shots in the win while Montoya made 20 stops as each have 2-2 records in the series. Providence out-shot Hartford 25-24.

On special teams, the P-Bruins scored once in four power play chances while holding the Wolf Pack scoreless in six opportunities. Providence has now converted on 37 of its last 38 penalty kills.

The series remains in Rhode Island for Game 5 on Thursday, slated for 7:05 p.m. The series returns to Connecticut Saturday, April 28 for Game 6 and, should there be a Game 7, it will take place on Sunday, April 29 in Hartford at 7 p.m. Providence is 2-1 all-time in playoff series against Hartford, winning in 1999 and 2001 while falling in 2000. The P-Bruins are 12-8 in those games, including 7-2 on home ice.
