Iowa Chops News Release
DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations Scott White today announced that Center Joel Lundqvist, Left Wing Loui Eriksson and Defenseman Nicklas Grossman have all been loaned by the Dallas Stars back to the Iowa Stars. The Swedish trio were all part of Iowa's Clear Day Roster and are all able to participate in Iowa's quest for the AHL's Calder Cup after the Dallas Stars were eliminated in Game Seven, having their bid for the NHL's Stanley Cup come to an end Monday night.
A native of Are, Sweden, Lundqvist registered the lone goal in Dallas' 4-1 loss in Vancouver last night. It was his second goal in the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The 25-year-old played in 36 Regular Season games with Dallas this season, recording three goals and three assists: 36(3/3/6). He notched his first NHL point, a goal, against Miikka Kiprusoff and the Calgary Flames on January 17th. The first-year North American Professional appeared in 40 games for the Iowa Stars this season, registering 16 goals and 22 assists: 40(16/22/38). Selected by the Dallas Stars with their third selection in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Joel, along with his identical twin brother Henrik skated their way into National Hockey League history on December 14th, 2006. Joel, playing center for Dallas and Henrik, playing goal for the New York Rangers, became just the third set of twins in the 90-year history of the NHL to play on opposite teams in the same game.
The 21-year-old Eriksson rejoins the Iowa Stars after skating in 59 games with the Dallas Stars this season. A native of Goteborg, Sweden, he garnered six goals and 13 assists while in the NHL: 59(6/13/19). His first NHL goal came against Jose Theodore and the Colorado Avalanche on October 4th, 2006. He also played in 15 games for Iowa this season, registering five goals and three assists. Last season, he was named the Rbk Hockey AHL Rookie of the Month for March. The 6-1, 183-pound winger paced the Iowa Stars in 2005-06 with 31 goals and was second overall on the team with 60 points: (31/29/60). He still holds the Iowa franchise record for the longest points-streak: eight games (March 25th to April 8th). Selected by Dallas with their first choice, 33rd overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, he had one assist in four 2007 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Drafted by the Dallas Stars with the 56th overall pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Grossman played in 67 games for the Iowa Stars this season. A native of Stockholm, Sweden, he had two goals and eight assists and led Iowa with a 'plus 7' rating: 67(2/8/10)+7. The 22-year-old blueliner appeared in eight games for the Dallas Stars, recording four penalty minutes. Dallas was 6-0-1 when he played. He made his NHL debut on December 2nd against the Minnesota Wild, recording one shot and four penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro, the 6-3, 206-pounder served as Captain for Team Sweden at the 2005 World Junior Championships. He did not make an appearance in the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
