P-Bruins Defeat Wolf Pack 4-3 in Shootout

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack 4-3 in a shootout Friday evening in front of 9,535 fans at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals in regulation from Nate Thompson, Byron Bitz and Matt Lashoff and in the shootout from Jeff Hoggan and Zach Hamill. The 51-16-3-4 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Saturday against the Lowell Devils at the Tsongas Arena at 7:05 p.m. Providence moves seven points ahead of the second place Wolf Pack.

The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead only eight seconds into the game. Matt Hunwick sent the puck to Sean Curry in his own zone and he quickly sent it up the ice to Thompson, giving hi, a breakaway. Thompson score in the upper right hand corner of the net, his 18th goal of the season. Providence took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Hartford tied the game at one at the 6:45 mark of the second period. With a Wolf Pack power play just expiring, Artem Anisimov netted his 14th goal of the season, with Dane Byers and Andrew Hutchinson picking up the assists. The game went into the second intermission tied at one.

In the third period, the P-Bruins retook the lead at the 2:05 mark. Dwayne Zinger put a shot on net and Hamill was there to get the rebound and push the puck off to Bitz, who tallied his 13th goal of the season. The Wolf Pack tied the game at two moments later at the 4:55 mark. Hutchinson scored his 18th goal of the season with Corey Potter recording the lone assist. Later in the third at the 12:38 mark Chirs Collins sent the puck to Jonathan Sigalet and he worked it up the boards for Lashoff. He skated into the zone, faked out a Wolf Pack defenseman and scored his ninth goal of the season. Once again the Wolf Pack battled back to tie the game. At the 12:59 mark, Mike Ouellette netted his 13th goal of the season, while Hugh Jessiman and Byers grabbed the assists.

After a scoreless overtime, two of the first three P-Bruins shooters, Hoggan and Hamill scored, while the only Hartford player to net a goal was Greg Moore. Providence went on to the 4-3 shootout victory.

Jordan Sigalet stopped 35 of 38 shots for the P-Bruins, while David LeNeveu made 25 saves for the Wolf Pack. The P-Bruins went 0-for-2 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
