P-Bruins Defeat Falcons 5-4

Springfield, MA - The Providence Bruins defeated the Springfield Falcons 5-4 Sunday afternoon. Carter Camper scored twice, while Justin Florek, Bobby Robins and Anthony Camara each added a goal for the P-Bruins. Niklas Svedberg recorded 24 saves for the victory.

After a quiet first ten minutes in the opening period, the P-Bruins started the scoring at the 11:10 mark as Camper tallied his sixth goal of the season, batting in a rebound off Seth Griffith's shot. Zach Trotman also recorded an assist on the play, less than 24 hours after making his NHL debut. Providence led 1-0 going into the first intermission.

The second period started off quickly, as Camper scored his second of the game and seventh of the season only 50 seconds into the period. Joe Morrow kept the puck in on the blue line, as he rocketed a slap shot from the point which Camper was able to get his stick on and redirect into the net. Only 39 seconds later, the Falcons got on the board as Jake Hansen scored his seventh goal of the season, depositing the rebound from Darryl Boyce's original shot. Jean-Francois Jacques had the second assist on the play. At the 3:03 mark, Springfield tied the game at two as Frederic St. Denis took a shot, which deflected off a Providence stick and into the net. Spencer Machacek and Tim Miller assisted on St. Denis' seventh of the season. The P-Bruins regained the lead converting on their first power play of the game. Florek was the recipient of some great passing by Camper and Craig Cunningham. The goal was Florek's, eighth of the season. Providence took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.

The third period continued right where the second period left off, with multiple goals scored in the first ten mintues. Robins gave the P-Bruins a 2 goal lead at the 5:37 mark, as he stuffed home a rebound, for his fourth goal of the season. Andrew Cherniwchan and Camara assisted on the goal. At the 6:42 mark, Jonathan Marchessault scored his eleventh of the year as he collected a rebound from the boards and shot into the net to bring the Falcons back within a goal. Sean Collins worked the puck to Will Weber, who's shot was re-directed behind the net and landed right on Marchessault's stick. pringfield tied the game at the 7:48 mark, as St. Denis' scored his second of the game and eighth of the season with a wrist shot that found its way under the crossbar. Cody Goloubef and Boyce grabbed the assists. After giving up their second two goal lead of the game, the P-Bruins retook the lead for good at the 14:37 mark, as Camara scored his fourth goal of the season, deflecting the shot from Ben Youds into the net. Morrow was credited with the second assist. The P-Bruins held on for the 5-4 victory.

Svedberg stopped 24 of 28 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jeremy Smith finished with 17 saves for the Falcons. Providence went 1-for-3 on the power play and was 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.

The P-Bruins wrap up their five game road trip Tuesday in Manchester against the Monarchs at 7:00pm before returning home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday, January 3 at 7:05pm against the Worcester Sharks.
