
P-Bruins Defeat Falcons 5-1

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Springfield Falcons 5-1 Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Martins Karsums, Jeremy Reich, Adam McQuaid and two goals from Johnny Boychuk. The first place P-Bruins are back at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday versus the Lowell Devils at 7:05 p.m. for Vladimir Sobotka Bobblehead Night.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 19:40 mark of the opening period, while on the power play. Martin St. Pierre held the puck in the corner and passed it to Sobotka behind the net. He found Boychuk at the right point and he blasted the puck into the net for his fifth goal of the season. Providence went into the first intermission leading 1-0.
In the second period, Providence took a 2-0 advantage at the 1:49 mark, while on its second power play of the game. Jeff Penner picked up the puck in the left face off circle and sent it to St. Pierre behind the net. St. Pierre tossed the puck in the slot for Karsums who tallied his 11th goal of the season. Minutes later at the 3:10 mark the P-Bruins grabbed a 3-0 lead. Reich blocked a shot in his own zone and skated the puck down the left wing before shooting it past Falcons net minder Devan Dubnyk and into the net for his sixth goal of the season. Providence continued the scoring at the 16:32 mark. St. Pierre had the puck halfway up the left boards before shuffling it off to Karsums behind the net. He found Boychuk in the right face off circle and Boychuk scored his second goal of the game and sixth of the season. The P-Bruins finished off the second period scoring with three seconds left in the period. Peter Schaefer had the puck behind the net and tossed it to Zach Hamill in the left face off circle. He passed it back to the point for McQuaid and McQuaid sent the puck through traffic in the slot and into the net for his second goal of the season. Providence led 5-0 after two periods.
The Falcons netted their only goal of the game at the 10:06 mark of the third period. Bryan Lerg scored his sixth goal of the season with Ryan Potulny and Viacheslav Trukhno recording the assists. Providence went on to the 5-1 victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 18 of 19 shots for the P-Bruins, while Dubnyk made 23 saves and Glenn Fisher made 17 saves for the Falcons. The P-Bruins were 2-for-6 on the power play and 7-for-7 on the penalty kill.
