Third-Year Blueliner Set To Make NHL Debut With Carolina Sunday

ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that defenseman Brett Carson has been recalled by the Carolina Hurricanes, their National Hockey League affiliate.

Carson, 23, has played in all 23 games for the River Rats this season and has 11 points (1 goal, 10 assists) and eight penalty minutes. This marks the first NHL call up for the Regina, Saskatchewan native, who is tied for the Albany team-lead in assists and is tied for fourth in points. Selected by the Hurricanes in the fourth round (109th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Carson has played in 163 AHL games, all for Albany, and has 53 points (5 goals, 48 assists) in three years with Carolina's top minor league affiliate. To clear room for Carson on the 23-man roster, the ‘Canes placed goaltender Cam Ward on injured reserve. Carson becomes the fifth River Rats player to be recalled by the Hurricanes in 2008-09 and will be looking to make his NHL debut on Sunday as Carolina hosts the Washington Capitals for a 5:00 pm face off at the RBC Center.

Albany continues their road trip on Sunday, December 7th with a 6:05 pm face off against the Rochester Americans at Blue Cross Arena. The River Rats next home game is set for Saturday, December 13th as they host the Binghamton Senators for a 7:00 pm face off at the Times Union Center.

River Rats flex ticket packages and individual game tickets are on sale now at the River Rats office and the Times Union Center Box Office. For more information please contact the Albany River Rats at (518) 487-2244 or online at www.albanyriverrats.com.
