December 7, 2008 - The Springfield Falcons lost to the Providence Bruins 5-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin Donuts Center ending their weekend with a record of 2-1 and taking four of a possible six points over the last three games.

SUNDAY'S BOX SCORE

Johnny Boychuk's power play goal with 19-seconds remaining in the first period gave Providence a 1-0 lead. The Falcons had three power play opportunities in the opening frame, but failed to convert.

In the second period, it was all Providence right from the drop of the puck as they built upon the momentum gained from their goal late in the opening period. Martins Karsums expanded the Bruins lead to 2-0 at 1:49 of the middle stanza with a power play goal, followed by Jeremy Reich's even strength marker at 3:10. At 16:32 of the second period, Boychuck added his second tally of the game, followed by Adam McQuaid's goal with three-seconds remaining in the middle period giving the Bruins a five goal advantage through 40 minutes of play.

Bryan Lerg ended Providence goaltender Tuukka Rask's shutout bid in the third period with his sixth goal of the year at 10:06, but that was the conclusion of the night for Springfield.
