
P-Bruins Defeat Falcons 4-1

Marlboro, MA - The Providence Bruins defeated the Springfield Falcons 4-1 Wednesday evening at the New England Sports Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Jordan Knackstedt, Adam McQuaid, Greg Classen and Kirk MacDonald. The P-Bruins are back at home Friday at the Dunkin' Donuts Center versus the Lowell Devils at 7:05 p.m. for their second pre-season game.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead with time running out in the opening period at the 18:52 mark. With Providence on a power play, Derick Martin worked the puck out of his own end and into the neutral zone to Classen. He tossed the puck along the boards to Knackstedt, who score from right outside the crease. The P-Bruins went into the first intermission leading 1-0.
In the second period, Springfield tied the game at one only 20 seconds into the period. Brian Lerg tallied the goal with Marc-Andre Bernier grabbing the lone assist. The P-Bruins retook the lead at the 12:49 mark, while on the power play. Wacey Rabbit worked the puck from behind the net to McQuaid in the right face off circle and he scored his first goal of the pre-season. Providence went into the second intermission with a 2-1 advantage.
The P-Bruins added their third power play goal of the game at the 2:34 mark of the third period. Classen netted the goal, with Rabbit and McQuaid recording the assists. Providence took a three goal advantage adding a shorthanded empty net goal at the 18:33 mark. MacDonald scored the goal as the P-Bruins went on to the 4-1 victory.
Kevin Nastiuk stopped 13 of 14 shots and Kevin Regan stopped all 18 shots he faced for the P-Bruins, while Glenn Fisher made 20 saves for the Falcons. Â The P-Bruins were 3-for-6 on the power play and 7-for-7 on the penalty kill, in a game which featured seven fighting majors for each team and a total of 130 penalty minutes.
