Providence Bruins News Release

Providence, RI -- The Providence Bruins defeated the Albany River Rats in a 12-round shootout 4-3 Sunday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Eric Healey, Michael Schutte and Ben Guite each scored for the Bruins during regulation. In the shootout Guite and Ben Walter each scored, while Healey had the shootout winner. Jordan Sigalet earned his second win for the P-Bruins.

Providence opened up a 1-0 lead only 59 seconds into the game when Nate Thompson freed up the puck behind the net and fed it to Healey who was parked along the near post. Healey backhanded the puck upper left corner past Albany goaltender Frank Doyle to give the P-Bruins a 1-0 lead. The Bruins extended their lead to 2-0 on the power play when Schutte was set up in front of the net by passes from Healey and Jonathan Sigalet. Albany cut the Bruins lead in half heading into the first intermission on Aleksander Suglobov's first power play goal of the game.

The River Rats tied the game at two early in the second period on Suglobov's second power play goal of the evening. With the River Rats back on the power play minutes later the Bruins' Jeremy Reich made a steal along the far boards in the River Rats end and fed Guite who was waiting in front of the net. Guite buried his shot and the Bruins went up 3-2. Almost halfway through the second period the River Rats once again battled back to tie the game at three on Suglobov's third goal of the game.

The two teams headed into the third intermission knotted at three and the score remained the same at the end of regulation, following a scoreless third period. Providence began the extra session on the man-advantage after Suglobov took two minutes for roughing as time expired. The Bruins were unable to score on the power play and after five minutes of scoreless overtime the game headed into a shootout.

The River Rats struck first in the shootout when Aaron Voros scored in the fourth round. Heading into the fifth round Guite tied the shootout up beating Doyle along the near post. Neither team scored again until round ten when Ivan Khomutov banked the puck off Sigalet's pads and into the net, but Walter answered for the Bruins scoring on Doyle at the other end. In the twelfth round Healey scored along the near post to cap off a three game weekend for the Bruins with a 4-3 shootout victory over the River Rats.
