Norfolk Admirals News Release

The Admirals fell to Philadelphia 2-1 on Sunday night at the Wachovia Spectrum.

It appeared as if the teams would skate to the first break with a scoreless tie. However, the Phantoms netted a goal with 5.5 seconds remaining on the power play. Pat Kavanaugh deflected Freddy Meyer's shot from the left point past Norfolk netminder Adam Munro glove side. Philadelphia out-shot the Admirals 11-5 in the period and held a one-goal advantage at the first intermission.

Another late-period Phantoms marker put Norfolk down by two goals in the middle frame. As an Admirals penalty expired, Munro stopped a David Printz shot from the point, but left a rebound at the feet of Brent Kelly. The Phantoms center put a quick wrister past Munro for a 2-0 Philadelphia lead with 2:48 left in the second stanza. Both teams fired six pucks on net in the period, and the Admirals faced a two-goal deficit heading into the third.

Nathan Barrett got Norfolk on the board on a power play 12:40 into the final frame. Phantoms goaltender Martin Houle stopped a Carl Corazzini wrist shot from the point, but left a rebound in the crease. Jim Henkel dished the puck to Nathan Barrett at the post to the left of Houle, and Barrett put the puck past the Philadelphia backstop for his fifth goal of the season.

Despite out-shooting the Phantoms 10-4 in the third period, the Admirals were unable to get the equalizer. Anton Babchuk's attempt to send the game to overtime with 6.4 seconds remaining was thwarted by Houle, and the Phantoms held on to win 2-1.

Martin Houle picked up the win for the Phantoms in his AHL debut, making 20 saves on 21 shots. Adam Munro stopped 19 of 21 Philadelphia shots, but took the loss for the Admirals.

Norfolk was 1-9 on the power play, and Philadelphia was 1-8.

Three Stars:

1. Martin Houle - PHI

2. Pat Kavanaugh - PHI

3. Brent Kelley - PHI
