Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

HARLINGEN - Behind twelve runs and a strong pitching performance from Jose Oyervidez, the Edinburg RoadRunners cruised to a 12-1 win over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings.

Edinburg (26-42) starting pitcher Jose Oyervidez, signed before the game, kept the WhiteWings (39-28) scoreless through eight innings before surrendering a run in the bottom of the ninth. Overall, Oyervidez allowed just six hits in 8.1 innings while striking out eleven batters.

Oyervidez records the win in his first game with the RoadRunners while WhiteWings starter Chase Davenport is charged with the loss, falling to 5-5 with a 5.21 ERA.

Edinburg, already leading 1-0, opened the game up with a six run top of the fourth inning. All nine batters came to the plate that inning and all nine reached base. An RBI single from Welington Dotel started the scoring spree before DJ Dixon reached the plate on a passed ball to make the score 3-0 RoadRunners. A three-RBI double from RJ Harris made the score 6-0 as one batter later, Stantrel Smith capped off the big inning with an RBI single of his own to bring a seven run lead to the RoadRunners.

The big inning was all the RoadRunners needed to win as the strong pitching performance from Oyervidez kept the WhiteWings off of the scoreboard.

The RoadRunners scored five more runs in the game, bringing them to a 12-0 lead before the 'Wings were able to finally produce a run against Oyervidez in the bottom of the ninth.

The WhiteWings are back in action Saturday night on AT&T Real Yellow Pages Giveaway Night. Right-handed pitcher Alexander Concepcion (6-4, 5.78 ERA) is expected to take the mound for the 'Wings against Julio Castro (2-0, 1.21 ERA).
